Getting the Most out of Incomplete Warranty Data
A Practical Solution for Using Incomplete Warranty Data for Failure Analysis
Warranty data is a valuable source of information for analyzing the failure characteristics of your product. Knowing the failure trends of your products provides an array of benefits, including the ability to predict future returns, to estimate warranty-related claim costs, and to monitor product quality.
Typically, a reliability engineer uses complete warranty data in order to perform failure analyses. Obtaining complete warranty data means that a systematic and well-organized approach to warranty information collection is in place. In real-world scenarios this is often difficult or not possible. In these cases, you may only have partial warranty information, or an incomplete set of warranty data.
Recognizing that many companies have incomplete warranty data, Relex engineers developed a new approach to maximize the potential of this still valuable information. The methodology for this new technique was presented at the 2008 Reliability and Maintainability Symposium (RAMS) and Karen Mohan, the presenting engineer, received the Evans-McElroy Best Paper award for her work. For an overview on this Relex engineers’ methodology for maximizing the use of incomplete warranty data, click here. |

Quickly Create an Excel Spreadsheet from a Relex Table
Did you know that in Studio 2008 you can create a Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet from any Relex table such as the System Tree, RBD Table, or FMEA Worksheet? To do so:
• Ensure that the desired table is active. If it is not, click on the table’s header.
• Select Tools > Create Excel Spreadsheet.

Creating an Excel Spreadsheet from Relex table data has never been easier!
Relex saves the table data to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and then opens this file. The spreadsheet includes all of the information in the table along with the column headers. This process can be helpful for power users who may want to perform additional data analytics outside of Relex.
Here’s an extra tip within a tip. For even faster creation of a spreadsheet, simply click the Create Excel Spreadsheet button on the Standard toolbar instead of selecting the command from the Tools menu.

Don’t forget that you can also access the Create Excel Spreadsheet command with
the click of the button on the Standard toolbar.
