Relex 2.2 Introduces New Modules and Enhanced Feature Set
Release Date: June 29, 2004
Relex Software Corporation, a leading provider of reliability and maintainability software analysis
tools, today announced the release of the Relex FRACAS Management System version 2.2. "Users of our
closed-loop Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective
Action System, referred to as a FRACAS, can be found in
many different industries, including defense, aerospace, telecommunications, process control, medical, information
technology, automotive, and more," said Kevin Van Fleet, CEO of Relex Software Corporation. "Users in all of these
industries will greatly benefit from the many enhancements found in this latest Relex offering."
Relex 2.2 provides for gathering and tracking failure data in a centralized database so that the
underlying failure causes for a product or system can be quickly identified and corrected. By supporting three
different platforms (Enterprise, Corporate, and Team), Relex 2.2 supplies organizations of all sizes with the
capabilities needed to deliver an effective and efficient FRACAS. According to Van Fleet, highlights found in
the newly released version include two new modules, an enhanced Report Designer, streamlined Import and Export
Wizards, many user interface enhancements, and performance improvements in the areas of navigation, graphing,
calculations, importing and exporting, and transferring data.
New Relex Modules
The two new modules in Relex 2.2 are Relex Dashboard and the Relex Human Factors Risk Analysis module.
Relex Dashboard, a web-based application for seeing the "big picture" of a system, supports the generation of
both FRACAS reports and graphs over the Internet. "Using Relex Dashboard, any number of personalized configurations
or dashboard views of FRACAS Projects can be created to track the FRACAS process at a high level over the
Internet," said Van Fleet. Relex Dashboard also supports drilldown to allow the underlying data to be viewed
in more detail. The new Relex Human Factors Analysis module provides an automated, organized framework
for performing human risk analyses. "This module introduces a streamlined approach that systematically walks
users through defining a process breakdown, identifying all potential human errors, and then moving
on through the analysis of effects and the severity and likelihood of these effects to determine risk," said
Van Fleet. The Risk Assessment Codes automatically determined for potential errors are color-coded for easy
viewing and identification.
Redesigned Report Designer and Streamlined Wizards
The new and improved visual Relex Report Designer allows sophisticated, customized reports to be
generated quickly. The Report Designer now includes a Report Wizard that can be used to create reports in an easy,
step-by-step approach. Viewing of reports is now available in Relex
Standard, the module for viewing, entering, and editing FRACAS data over the Internet. Additionally,
the Import Wizard and Export Wizard have been redesigned and streamlined for ease of use. The Import Wizard provides for
importing FRACAS data into a FRACAS Project from a wide variety of sources, including legacy systems. The Export
Wizard provides for exporting data from a FRACAS Project to the many different file formats supported. The
many features provided by the Import Wizard and Export Wizard greatly expand the ability of your Relex system to interface
with other business applications.
User Interface Enhancements and Improved Performance
Several enhancements to the Relex user interface are available in Relex 2.2. User Prompt files,
which have been renamed to Data Definition files, have been expanded to allow tooltip entry for data fields.
Data Definition files are used to customize Relex to meet user needs. Relex 2.2 also introduces the concept
of Relex File Sets in the Enterprise and Corporate Editions. Relex File Sets group related files in an
Enterprise or Corporate database into a single object or data entity, thereby providing for greater organization
and better design. Using the new Relex File Set Navigator, navigation between related Project and Support files
takes only one or two mouse clicks!
Relex 2.2 also
includes many areas of performance improvements. Navigating, graphing, calculating, importing and exporting,
and transferring data are now all easier and faster. For example, in Relex 2.2, performance enhancements are
responsible for producing graphs up to 25 times faster and computing analytical results up to 6 times faster!
Navigation and data importing and exporting operations also have significant performance improvements,
especially in the handling of large data sets. For more information about the features and benefits of Relex
